Significance of Nirjala Ekadashi – Prernamurti Bharti Shriji

Nir-jala means water-less or without water and the fasting on Nirjala Ekadashi is observed without water or any type of food. Due to its strict fasting rules, Nirjala Ekadashi fast is the toughest amongst all Ekadashi fasts. However if observed religiously, it is one of the most rewarding occasion. Staunch Vishnu devotees undertake this fast, and they do not drink water or consume any food while fasting on this day. The fast begins on Ekadasi sunrise and ends on next day (Dwadasi) sunrise. It is believed that observing Nirjala Ekadashi is also equal to going on pilgrimage. People believe that observers of this fast, after death, are received by messengers from Vaikunta, abode of Vishnu and not by Yama, the god of death. Those who are not able to follow the other twenty four Ekadashi fasting in a year must observe a fast on Nirjala Ekadashi. It is believed that observing a single fast on Nirjala Ekadashi bestows the blessings and benefits of all twenty four Ekadashi fasting in a year.

When is Nirjala Ekadashi 2016? & The Legend of Nirjala Ekadashi

In the year 2016, Nirajala Ekadashi falls on 16th June. Nirjala Ekadashi is also known as Pandava Bhima Ekadashi or Bhimseni or Pandava Nirjala Ekadashi or Bhima Ekadashi, based on the legend of Bhima, the second and strongest of the five Pandava brothers. Based on the story from Brahma Vaivarta Purana, it is said that Bhima wanted to keep all ekadashi fasts, but being a lover of food, he could control his hunger. His entire family of four brothers, Yudhishthir, Arjuna, Nakul and Sahadeva, along with their wife Draupadi and mother Kunti, used to observe the Ekadashi fast without fail. He was scared of dishonoring Lord Vishnu, for whom the fast is observed, hence, he approached sage Vyasa for a solution. Sage Vyasa advised Bhima to observe Nirjala Ekadashi, once a year and this way he can attain the virtue of all 24 ekadashis. As per this Nirjala ekadasi story, one is able to get the benefits of all Ekadasis by observing one Nirjala Ekadasi. Benefits – Devotees who are unable to observe all twenty fours Ekadashi fasting in a year should observe single Nirjala Ekadashi fast as  fasting on Nirjala Ekadashi brings all benefits of twenty four Ekadashi fasting in a year.

In Her satsang (spiritual discourse), Shriji told villagers how to get rid of addictions and also motivated them to be cautious against these deadly habits; many people took a solemn vow in Her presence after Her divine speech and graciousness . There seemed to be drastic changes within villagers and they wished to quit addiction from their lives such as smoking, chewing tobacco etc. Their boundless joy and satisfied eyes were the proof of what they got from Shriji’s presence as there had been no one in their village like Shriji who had visited them to know their well being. They carried the things got in charity on their heads and left for their homes with extremely contented hearts. Shriji too took the farewell from villagers by showering grace through Her sight…

Why is Shivaratri Celebrated?

Each Hindu festival is associated with many beliefs and mythologies, so is the holy day of Shivaratri. One belief says that Shivaratri is celebrated to commemorate the day when Lord Shiva consumed the deadly poison, which came out during Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean) Whereas, according to another belief, it is the day when Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married.

Let’s know the legend of Samudra Manthan in detail.
The legend of Samudra Manthan is the reason as to why Shivaratri is celebrated. It is said that once the devas (Gods) and asuras (devils) were churning the ocean of milk. During the churning process, several things came out of the ocean. Among all those things were a pot of poison. The poison had the potential to destroy the universe, which frightened the devas (Gods) and asuras (devils). To seek help, they ran to Lord Shiva, the Lord of destruction. Lord Shiva, in order to save the universe from the deadly effect of poison, swallowed it
but held it in His throat. This act resulted in Lord Shiva’s throat turning blue, for which he earned the name ‘Nilkantha’. To celebrate this event of Lord Shiva, Shivaratri is celebrated.

Masik Shivaratri Significance For Women

Throughout the country, the occasion of Shivaratri holds prime importance for the married women as well as young girls. On this day, women observe fast and worship Lord Shiva for the welfare of their husband and sons. Unmarried girls on the other hand observe fast and pray to Lord Shiva for a right match.

Prernamurti Bharti Shriji teaches us while living in this materialistic world one should always take shelter of spiritual discourses and wisdom of Bhagwad Gita so that one can attain enlightment.

Efforts Attain Highest State of Wisdom

Arjuna says, I don’t want to fight, as there are big warriors in front of me and in their comparison, I am not so.

Then Lord Krishna said,

taktwa hriday duryabalyam uttishth param tapa.

Meaning that, keep aside the weakness of your heart and do your  karma. Srimad Bhagwad Gita never teaches that, you abandon your duties and work and be dependent on your destiny. Whatever lord will give, I will accept, NO…..

In Yoga Vashishtha MahaRamayana (famous Hindu Scripture), it is written, that

“O’ Lord Rama ! The one who always remain dependent on the destiny and resists one self from doing karma,  is a coward, & the one who does purusharth (efforts) is blessed with enlightenment. Here efforts win, not the destiny. Even destiny is made out of efforts. A farmer was ploughing a field, suddenly a bird collided with the plough , he caught & sold the bird. He thought the amount  which i gained by farming  for so many days, can be gained just by selling a bird. Hence from today onwards,no farming just selling the birds. No, everyday he would go to the field and waited for a bird to collide, and in this manner waited for long , but thereafter ,neither a bird collided nor he could sell & earn money. Many people become happy by incidental profits, “Today is sorrow, Tomorrow will be happiness”. Dont wait for incidental profits, do efforts. Doing work is your duty and rewarding for that is the duty of God.

Uddeme na sidhhyanti karyani na manorathayi,

nahi suptasya sinhasya pravishyanti mukhe mriga.

meaning  that , if a  lion opens his mouth and keep sitting with the  expectation that a deer will enter his mouth automatically ,then lion is mistaken. Similarly, If you want to eat chapatti and the flour , roller , chapati board as well as vegetables are near you,  efforts have to be put in by you, so that your stomach gets filled. Therefore, one should always perform duties . Bhagvad Gita says that one who coordinates his work, knowledge and devotion, remains detached to materialistic world even though living in it. Just as Lotus grows into the water but remains unaffected by water. Like tongue remains inside your mouth, tastes lot of Ghee, Oil and butter but never becomes lube, similarly, while living in this materialistic world one should always take shelter of spiritual discourses and wisdom of Bhagwad Gita so that one can attain enlightment.

Bhai Dooj—- Prernamurti Bharti Shriji

IMG_7443

Bhai dooj is a festival of mutual love and affection between brother & sister. It is also known as Yamaa dvitiya. There is one tale related to it :- Once, on the day of kartik shukla dvitiya, Yamraja reached his sister Yamuna’s(the holy river) house. Yamuna did a hearty & warm welcome of her brother. She prepared various delicious dishes for her brother and applied a tilak on his forehead. Yamraja was overwhelmed by his sisters welcome and he gifted many things to his sister. When He was leaving, He requested Yamuna to ask for a wish. Yamuna on seeing him requesting ,said: ‘Brother ! If you really want me to ask for a wish, then bless me with the wish that every year on this day you will come to my house and will accept my welcome. Similarly, every brother who will to his sister’s house on this day and accepts her welcome and gives her gifts and all, he never has to face the fear from you.

Yama accepted Yamuna’s request and from that day on, this festival of Bhai dooj is being celebrated. The main objective behind this festival is, that strong bond of love & affection between brother & sister remains forever.

Rituals of the Day

The sister on this day, while applying tilak to her brother must  think with strong determination that ‘May my brother’s wisdom arise’. Pray to God Yamraja for your brother’s longer life and pray to your Guru & God for your brother’s welfare and progress. Then remember eight immortals- Markandey, Bali, Vyasa, Hanumana, Vibhishina, krupacharya, Ashwathama, Parshurama, and sprinkle rice over your brother and with soulful feeling ”May my brother become strong and immortal.” The brother should too sprinkle some rice and pray ‘ May my sister have a strong character, She should be fully secured from all evils, she should spend her life with fearlessness and not under some pressures or fears’.

– Wake up before sunrises, One who keps sleeping after sunrise is responsible for the destruction of his own wealth.

– Everyday offer salutatiom to Sun God. This helps in developing one’s health, mind and radiance.

– Offer food to mother cow. This helps in eliminating domestic evils. So everyday keep aside first byte of food for Cow.

– Offer grains to birds everyday for prosperity in your house.

– Do as much service as one can to the poor along with God’s Naam Japa and listening to the mythological stories.

– Worship the Peeple and Basil tree and light a diya near them.

– Keep aside 1/10th part of your income for charitable deeds. This gives you happiness while in this world and after the world and makes one wealthy too.

– While cooking roti (wheat bread), don’t throw the flour spilled near by. Mix some sugar into it and offer it to the ants. This way, you will make best use of it and would prove to be meritorious.

– The human body has been designed to intake vegetarian food only. When we kill & eat innocent animals ,we eat the fear, pain, sorrow within them which entered into them at the time of killing them, so one must eat vegetarian food only.

– Tea, Coffee is harmful for the health. Instead of that, have cow’s milk .

– All the drugs like Gutka, Tabacco, Liquor etc. are the causes of life taking diseases like cancer. Therefore, stay away from the addictions and motivate others too for this.

Sacred Diwali Message

Lighten up yourself internally alongwith external light!

Its important to clean your internal self besides cleaning up your house. As long as there is the darkness in the disguise of evils and lack of knowledge, the man is considered to be blind inspite of having eyes.

The way you decorate your house with new and attractive things on the day of diwali, buy new clothes and colour your house, same way throw out your weakness, evil thoughts and vices and get virtues like happiness, peace, satisfaction, forgiveness and decorate your inner self.

At some places sweets are being taken during the whole year, not only this, but the eatables etc. get rotten without even using them and at the same time there are places where the children crave for one piece of sweet on diwali day. There can be seen plates full of different dishes in some houses and there are places too where  children sleep empty stomach. Somewhere new clothes are being bought and some don’t even have enough clothes to cover their bodies.

So start your Diwali by lightning a diya at some house where there is not a single diya is being lit. Your heart will glitter too and the happiness you will get will definitely be more than celebrating diwali at your own house.

You must follow the tips given to gain wealth but be careful that Goddess laxmi in disguise of wealth will arrive & leave as per your destiny but Goddess laxmi which belongs to Lord Vishnu is the giver of Divine virtues. If one achieves that, then material wealth will hardly matter if it stays or leaves. If you actually want a happy, healthy and contented life, then follow spiritualism. Diwali conveys message that wealth is unstable, people die for wealth but the wealth doesn’t even ask once while it leaves “Shall I go?” Therefore, considering wealth as unpredictable and unreliable, take God’s name, do Japa , listen to Spiritual discourses and decorate your inner self with peace, satisfaction & live at par.

May the inner light glitter and eliminates inner darkness

May the new year is filled with new thoughts!

                 Have a great Year Ahead!!
