WHO’s slogan for this year’s World No Tobacco Day is “Get ready for plain packaging” and in a statement released Tuesday, it said: “Plain packaging is an important demand reduction measure that reduces the attractiveness of tobacco products, restricts use of tobacco packaging as a form of tobacco advertising and promotion, limits misleading packaging and labelling, and increases the effectiveness of health warnings. Plain packaging of tobacco products refers to measures that restrict or prohibit the use of logos, colours, brand images or promotional information on packaging other than brand names and product names displayed in a standard colour and font style.”

According to WHO, about 6 million people die every year from tobacco-related illnesses. About 5 million die from direct tobacco use, and more than 600,000 deaths are caused by second-hand smoke.

Mohini Ekadashi Fast Method

Fasting on Mohini Ekadashi helps devotees to get moksha from the past sins. Preparations of the fast actually begins a day prior on Dashami where the devotees wake up, bathe with chandan and water and prepare their mind for fast.

People observing fast should only have one meal and avoid salt on Dashami. On the day of Mohini Ekadashi, devotees get dressed in clean clothes after bathing, offer puja to Lord Vishnu and Lord Parshuram and meditate their names in their prayers.

Few people fast even without drinking water while others do eat fruits and observe Jagraan singing devotional songs. The fast continues till the second half of the next day Dwashmi (twelveth day) after which one can eat a home cooked meal. Fasting on Mohini Ekadashi rid our souls from all the ill effects of our past misdoings, frees us from all worldly distractions and helps bringing peace and happiness to our lives.
