Shanichari Amavasya – Prernamurti Bharti Shriji

Shani Amavasya in year 2016 is on June 04. Shani is a Hindi word for the name of Saturn. In Hindu culture, Amavasya Day is not considered auspicious for initiating any good or important work or performing any sacred pooja function. However, this particular ‘Shani Amavasya’ is the only day that is regarded auspicious for performing any custom, rituals of fair traditions; except the other ones. This sacred day often comes one, two or very few times in a year. In both, Vedic Astrology and Hindu Mythology, planet Saturn is one the very powerful celestial body in Universe. For Hindu people, Saturn is Lord Shani who is depicted with black complexion. In many places of India, it can be noticed that people donate mustard oil to please Lord Shani. The person under influence of Shani Dasha or Saturn period must worship Lord Shani especially during Shani Amavasya. It is acknowledged that worshiping Lord Shani during Saturdays or on the day of Shani Amavasya help natives to reduce evil effects of planet Saturn. Saturn is very powerful and influencing planet. It can be both ‘malefic’ and ‘benefic’. If this planet is benefic then the native will definitely receive abundant prosperity and fortune in life. Many difficult tasks automatically be accomplished by the grace of Lord Shani. But, if this planet is not favourable in one’s horoscope, the native will certainly experience delays, difficulties, and types of different problems. Such person should not avoid worshipping Lord Shani on Saturday or especially on the day of Shani Amavasya. Remedies for Saturn can also be applied to reduce malefic effect of this planet.

What is Shani Amavasya?

It has already been mentioned above that ‘shani amavasya’ is a sacred day that comes when new- moon day is noticed particularly on Saturday. It is the only day that is considered favorable for bringing fortune and prosperity. However, Amavasya of all months are only considered for Shradh pooja or trapan to offer to dead ancestors and forefathers. But, Shani Amavasya is considered very favorable to perform sharadh pooja for forefathers. People who are facing obstacles or many difficulties in life and are not finding proper remedies can follow rituals and customs to delight Lord Shani on the day of Shani Amavasya. Therefore, Shani Amavasya 2016 is an auspicious day for Shradh 2016.

What can be done on Shani Amavasya?

However Shani Amavasya is said to be a propitious day for Hindu devotees, especially to perform ‘shradh’ or ‘trapan’ to dead ancestors, this day is also not auspicious to begin other auspicious work like expansion of new venture of business and so on. But it is sure that worshiping Lord Shani on this day certainly bestows the devotee immense blessings of this deity.

Masik Shivaratri (Monthly Shivaratri) – Prernamurti Bharti Shriji

Why is Shivaratri Celebrated?

Each Hindu festival is associated with many beliefs and mythologies, so is the holy day of Shivaratri. One belief says that Shivaratri is celebrated to commemorate the day when Lord Shiva consumed the deadly poison, which came out during Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean) Whereas, according to another belief, it is the day when Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married.

Let’s know the legend of Samudra Manthan in detail.
The legend of Samudra Manthan is the reason as to why Shivaratri is celebrated. It is said that once the devas (Gods) and asuras (devils) were churning the ocean of milk. During the churning process, several things came out of the ocean. Among all those things were a pot of poison. The poison had the potential to destroy the universe, which frightened the devas (Gods) and asuras (devils). To seek help, they ran to Lord Shiva, the Lord of destruction. Lord Shiva, in order to save the universe from the deadly effect of poison, swallowed it
but held it in His throat. This act resulted in Lord Shiva’s throat turning blue, for which he earned the name ‘Nilkantha’. To celebrate this event of Lord Shiva, Shivaratri is celebrated.

Masik Shivaratri Significance For Women

Throughout the country, the occasion of Shivaratri holds prime importance for the married women as well as young girls. On this day, women observe fast and worship Lord Shiva for the welfare of their husband and sons. Unmarried girls on the other hand observe fast and pray to Lord Shiva for a right match.

At the Dehotsarg Tirth, in the 9th century AD Shri Vallabhacharya gave discourses on Shrimad Bhagvat Gita for seven days, as well as the revered Gita Mandir, which has eighteen marble pillars with a chapter from the Bhagvat Gita inscribed on each one. The temple also contains a beautiful tribhangi idol of Lord Krishna playing his flute.

Triveni Ghat in Somnath is the meeting point of three holy rivers – Kapil, Hiran and a mystical River Saraswati, which are believed to be flowing to their ultimate destination – Arabian Sea. These stages of rivers where they meet and then flow together to the sea symbolises human birth, life and death.

Rajputa Vaja clan was in charge of Somnath during the Muslim desecrations. The devotional episode of the princess Veni is said to have been depicted in the novel by Shri K.M. Munshi. The temple was outside of the fort wall of Prabhas Pattan at the time of holy war with Gazani. The soldiers of Gazani attempted an abduction of the princess Veni, an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva who used to regularly visit the temple to offer her services to the Lord Shiva. The traditions maintain that the Shiva linga spontaneously got divided and the princess got buried into it. The Shiva temple here is known as Veneshwar temple after the fond memory of the divine episode of Veni.

The glorified carried onto place where Pujya Lilashshji Maharaj did penance and attended Nirvana. after that Dakshinmukhi Ganpati Mandir and behind that Swayambhu Shivlinga, there were many Shiv Lnga but the one appeared only once in  month else covered with Sea water.

Koliyak, Bhavnagar–Nishkalank Mahadeva Temple — Gujarat is full of wonders and awe. This temple is buried inside the sea. On a heavy tide day, all that can be seen are just the flag and a pillar. It is beyond one’s comprehension that there is a Lord Shiva Temple just under the fierce sea. This temple still exists, and people visit this place on foot! The temple has 5 distinct Swayumbu Shiva lingams inside. This is certainly one of the best spiritual destinations!

The following temple story dates back to Mahabaratha era…  Pandavas killed all the Kuravas and won the battle. Pandavas were grief stricken, knowing they acquired sins for killing their own relatives. In order to find redemption for their sins, Pandavas met Lord Krishna. To remove the sins, Krishna hands over a black Flag and a Black COW. He asks the Pandavas to follow it, when both Cow and flag turns white, they all will be pardoned. Krishna also advises them to do penance to lord Shiva, after that. The angst stricken brothers followed the cow wherever it went and carried the flag. They walked for days, to different places and the color did not change. Finally, when they arrived at the Koliyak Beach, both cow’s and the flag’s color turned to white. Pandavas were exalted. And all the 5 brothers sat for deep penance, meditated on lord Shiva.

Lord Shiva, pleased by all the brothers, appeared in lingam form in front of each brother.  In total there were 5 (Swayumbu) lingams which appeared on their own.  Pandavas were delighted to see this and they worshiped all the five lingams with great devotion.  Lord Shiva here is known as Nishkalan Mahadeva. ‘Nishkalank’ has many meanings, they are clean, pure, guiltless, to cleanse, to purify, etc…….

Devotee:  Ma, who is a sadhak?

Maiyaji : One who is an austere. One who achieves the Ultimate goal of life.

Devotee: What is the Ultimate goal?

Maiyaji : Refraining from worldly pleasures, devotion for God and freeing oneself from the cycle of birth & death.

Devotee: Ma, What is the strength of a Sadhak?

Maiyaji: Prayer is the strength of a sadhak. Just like a mother fulfills the desires of her crying child, similarly, that Supreme Lord listens to the  prayers of a bhakta(devotee) filled with Aart Bhaava(intense urge) . When you remove the words from a prayer, only emotions are left, that is most dear to God.

Devotee: Maiya ji , What are the barriers in Sadhna(spiritual practices)?

Maiyaji: The sadhak should not depend upon his future or destiny for sadhna nor should he get disappointed but must keep doing his/her efforts.

Devotee : Ma, What is the main goal of human life?

Ma: the ultimate goal of human life is Realisation of Self. May one take one birth or thousands, but one has to achieve this goal.

Devotee: Ma what should we do to achieve this goal?

Ma: Do sadhna(spiritual practices), seek company of Saints and follow their preachings.

Devotee: Ma, what is sadhna?

Ma: By doing which, the thoughts, mind & heart uplifts, becomes peaceful, enhances devotion towards God, is called sadhna. There is a story in Vedanta ,that ,just like a bird who is surrounded by sea from all sides, when gets tired by flying non stop, it takes shelter on the same boat from which it took its flight, same way, our senses, in disguise of that bird ,when get tired by roaming here and there the entire time,  come and take its shelter in its soul. After working for whole day,  when you get tired, go within your Self and get One with Him(the Supreme Lord). Like , the bird after taking rest on the boat, again starts flying, same way, our senses after taking some rest again roam here and there.

BRINGING BACK OUR ROAMING VRATTI(SENSES) TO THAT ONE SUPREME BEING IS CALLED “SADHNA”.

We take the golden opportunity to present some rare question answer series which took place between Highly Revered, our Compassionate Mother ,Sh. Sh.Ma Laxmi Devi and some women devotees, or spiritual seekers to quench their spiritual thirst .

We hope this series of question answers will help many people on the path of spirituality:

Devotee: Ma, what is the most valuable thing for a Sadhak?

MA:  The most valuable thing in a sadhak’s life is TIME. Every sin can be repented, but there is no repentance for non utilization of time. The time , once gone, never comes back. There is no way we can repent for this sin. So, always do optimum utilization of time. Always be careful that even one second of yours does not go wasted in unnecessary tasks.

Devotee: Ma, we don’t get time to do Sadhna(spiritual practices), when to do it?

Ma: Morning 4-8 and evening 6-11 is the ample time for you. You don’t have to worry about 3 time’s  meals, that you get anyways. But the truth is that you don’t have that ‘tadap’( intense yearn). One who has that urge , takes time out for it. A fish who lives in water has no value for water, same is the case with you. All of you have got the permission to live in the ashram, that’s why you cant even imagine the hardships we have gone through during the period of our sadhna. One who has even a little bit of interest towards God, he will automatically develop the trait of ‘vairagya’(detachment).
