Make the God the friend of your soul. Make Him your mentor when you move along a shadowy pathway in life–Prernamurti Bharti Shriji

Friendship with God

Make the God the friend of your soul. Make Him your mentor when you move along a shadowy pathway in life. God is your Moon in the night of ignorance. He is your Sun during the wakeful hours. . Seek God guidance. The world will go on like this in its ups and downs. Where shall we look for a sense of direction? Not to the prejudices roused within us by our habits and the environmental influences of our families, our country, or the world; but to the guiding voice of Truth within.

The ultimate form spiritual friendship is friendship with the whole of creation, with no particular objective or interest in mind. It is an expression of one’s love and admiration for God and His entire manifestation. It expresses itself as unconditional love, unbound compassion and universal brotherhood. It is an acknowledgement of God’s omnipresence and omniscience, a token of one’s surrender to God. . God assurance of atoning the sins of people who acknowledge their mistakes and turn to him for forgiveness was born out of this love.

Friendship with God is the ultimate and highest form of satsang. It can be practiced at various levels, physically, mentally and spiritually: physically by worshipping his image or statue, mentally by chanting his name or singing his glory and spiritually by meditating upon his form or qualities. It can be practiced directly in relation to God or through a Guru, acknowledging him as an embodiment of God. In the Mahabhagavatam Lord Mahavishnu explains to his devotee Prahlada eight forms of worshipping God.

Prernamurti Bharti Shriji has given us the message of Nishkam karm yog of Shrimad Bhagvad Gita

Niskama Karma(Selfless deeds)

Shrimad Bhagvad Gita is more concerned with the right approach to the performance of karma rather than running away from karma. The right approach cons ists of two important aspects:

1. Sankalp(संकल्प ) sanyasa or abdication of motives.

2. Tyaga (त्याग )or offering of the results at the feet of God.

This way of doing karma (deeds) is known as niskamakarma (selfless deeds) or nivrittikarma . Shrimad Bhagvad Gita declares that one should concern oneself with the duties to be performed but not with the results that may occur. ‘Result should not be the motive of any deeds’ Shrimad Bhagvad Gita says. Eligibility of an person is to  be decided on the way of performing deeds as described by Scriptures not by person’s interest in result of work. This approach is expressed in Shrimad Bhagvad Gita by the expressions like ‘sangam tyaktva’, ‘asaktah’, ‘kamasankalpavarjita’ etc. Activity undertaken with such a frame of mind is known as niskamakarma or nivrittikarma. Such an attitude is possible only, if one understands his role in the activity correctly.

There are basicly five factors underlying each activity according to Shrimad Bhagvad Gita.

These are:

1. Adhisthana (अधिष्ठान ) i.e., the place, the object with reference to which an activity is initiated.

2. Karta (करता ) ( i.e.,  the Jiva who is only a dependent agent.

3. Karana (कारण) i.e., the instruments i.e. Indriyas etc.

4. Vividha chesta (विविध चेस्टा) i.e. the various actions of these that are necessary for the production of results.

5. Daiva (देवा) i.e. the supreme God who is behind all these as director and regulator. One who knows this will easily realize his limited role and will be able to undertake niskamakarma.

Engaging oneself in such a nivrttikarma, one has to dedicate the results of his activity at the feet of God. This is tyaga, Gita declares it more than once. ‘Mayi servanikarmani sammyasya’ ‘[Yat karosi yad asnasi’ etc. several statements make it clear that the fulfillment of work is in the dedication of it to the God. Work is worship is the motto of Gita. ‘Svakarmanatam abhyaechya Siddhim Vindati manavah’.
