Significance of Putrada Ekadashi – Prernamurti Bharti Shriji

putrada-ekadashi

Once upon a time, King Mahijeet was benevolently and dutifully ruling in Mahishmati Nagari (City). People were very happy in his kingdom. Even then the king was not happy because he didn’t have any son. Once he told his people – “You are similar to my children but still I don’t have any child of my own. This fact makes me sad. I gave alms to deities and Brahmans. I never ever took money which someone else deserves.

King told his people that – “I have neither committed any sin nor did I earn wealth by injustice. I have always nurtured my people like my own children. I have followed all the rules of etiquettes. Then for which deed am I getting this punishment of not having any offspring?” After listening to this, everyone including the king’s Purohits (family priests) andwell-wishers, started looking for a solution to this. While chasing for a solution, luckily they met rishi Lomash in some forest.

Looking at the people, rishi Lomash asked them the reason for approaching. Theysaid – “Our King is very Kind. He nourished us like his own children. He is very sad due to Childlessness. Thus, it is our duty to make our king happy. Maharaja, please provide some solution through which our King can get a son.” Lomash rishi was Trikal Gyani (omniscient). He meditated for a while , saw the past of King and told them –“Your King was a Vaishya in past who used to exploit human beings, drink their blood. This Vaishya used to do business by wandering from one town to another. On the day of Jyeshtha Shukla Dashami tithi (10 th day of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month), he was thirsty and went near a lake to drink water where a calf also came along with her mother cow to drink water. But to quench his own thirst, he ignored thirst of the calf and threw the calf out of lake along with mother cow. Because of this sin, King was suffering from the pain of childlessness in this birth and due to some Punya (Good deeds) in the past, he got an empire.

Now people asked Lomash rishi – “Prabhu, you are omnipresent. Please tell us what shall we do so that our King gets a son.” Lomash rishi said – “Putrada Ekadashi of Shravana Shukla Paksha helps to get a son. One who desires a child, should duly observe fast on Putrada Ekadashi. All of you, on behalf of your king, observe fast, do Jagran (all-night vigil), do Kirtan of name of Lord Narayan. Then due to this Punya (all the good deeds done on Putrada Ekadashi), your king will get a son." People duly observed fast on Putrada Ekadashi as guided by rishi Lomash and consecrated the Punya to their King. After a few days , Queen became pregnant and gave birth to a healthy child.

That’s why, You all observe fast on all the Ekadashi’s and also motivate others to do it.

Significance of Nirjala Ekadashi – Prernamurti Bharti Shriji

Nir-jala means water-less or without water and the fasting on Nirjala Ekadashi is observed without water or any type of food. Due to its strict fasting rules, Nirjala Ekadashi fast is the toughest amongst all Ekadashi fasts. However if observed religiously, it is one of the most rewarding occasion. Staunch Vishnu devotees undertake this fast, and they do not drink water or consume any food while fasting on this day. The fast begins on Ekadasi sunrise and ends on next day (Dwadasi) sunrise. It is believed that observing Nirjala Ekadashi is also equal to going on pilgrimage. People believe that observers of this fast, after death, are received by messengers from Vaikunta, abode of Vishnu and not by Yama, the god of death. Those who are not able to follow the other twenty four Ekadashi fasting in a year must observe a fast on Nirjala Ekadashi. It is believed that observing a single fast on Nirjala Ekadashi bestows the blessings and benefits of all twenty four Ekadashi fasting in a year.

When is Nirjala Ekadashi 2016? & The Legend of Nirjala Ekadashi

In the year 2016, Nirajala Ekadashi falls on 16th June. Nirjala Ekadashi is also known as Pandava Bhima Ekadashi or Bhimseni or Pandava Nirjala Ekadashi or Bhima Ekadashi, based on the legend of Bhima, the second and strongest of the five Pandava brothers. Based on the story from Brahma Vaivarta Purana, it is said that Bhima wanted to keep all ekadashi fasts, but being a lover of food, he could control his hunger. His entire family of four brothers, Yudhishthir, Arjuna, Nakul and Sahadeva, along with their wife Draupadi and mother Kunti, used to observe the Ekadashi fast without fail. He was scared of dishonoring Lord Vishnu, for whom the fast is observed, hence, he approached sage Vyasa for a solution. Sage Vyasa advised Bhima to observe Nirjala Ekadashi, once a year and this way he can attain the virtue of all 24 ekadashis. As per this Nirjala ekadasi story, one is able to get the benefits of all Ekadasis by observing one Nirjala Ekadasi. Benefits – Devotees who are unable to observe all twenty fours Ekadashi fasting in a year should observe single Nirjala Ekadashi fast as  fasting on Nirjala Ekadashi brings all benefits of twenty four Ekadashi fasting in a year.

Ekadashi which comes between Holika Dahan and Chaitra Navratri is known as Papmochani Ekadashi. It falls before Yugadi and it is the last Ekadashi of the year.

Papamocani Ekadasi, or Papamochini Ekadashi, is observed during the waning phase of moon in the month of March – April. In 2016, the date of Papamochini Ekadasi is April 3. It is believed that observing Papamochini Ekadasi will help in the redemption of sins. Ekadashi Fasting is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is observed on the 11th day of waning and waxing phase of moon in traditional Hindu calendar.

The importance of Papmochni Ekadashi / Papmochni Ekadashi Vrat katha

This tale is narrated in the Bhavishya Uttara Purana in the form of dialogues between Lord Krishna and king Yudhishtira.

There was a sage named Medhavi who was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. This sage used to perform deep Tapas (meditation) in the forest of Chaitraratha. This forest was full of beautiful and scented flowers. The Chaitraratha forest was also frequently visited by Indra and Apsaras. Beautiful Apsaras tried many times but could never succeed in seducing young Medhavi. One famous Apsara, “Manjughosa”, also tried many ways to seduce this sage but she could not come closer to him due to the power of his sobriety that he had attained over the years.

After many attempts Manjughosa decided to pitch a tent couple of miles away from the sage and started singing. She sang so beautifully that even the Kamdev (Cupid) got excited and decided to use Manjughosha to target Medhavi. But when Manjughosha looked at powerful and attractive body of the sage, she herself got restless by lust .She again started singing seductively, Kamdev drew Medhavi’s attention towards the charm of Manughosha through his powerful magical bows .She slowly reached closer to Medhavi and embraced him with her beautiful arms. Medhavi stopped his tapa (meditation) and got trapped in Manjughosha’s charm.

He lost his purity of mind instantaneously. He got so much attracted to her charm that he even forgot the difference between night and day.

Medhavi was charmed by her for a very long time. After living a married life for 57 years, Manjughosha lost her interest in the sage, and decided to abandon him .Tricked by apsara’s charm Medhavi couldn’t be aware of the time he spent with Manjughosha. When Manjughosha asked Medhavi to permit her to leave, now the sage got his lost senses back and realized how he was tricked by this Apsara.

Fuming with anger Medhavi cursed her to become an ugly witch.Very sad Medhavi returned back to his father Sage Chyavana’s ashram and told the whole story to his father.

Sage Chyavana asked Medhavi to observe fast on Papamochani Ekadashi, and assured him that all his sins will be removed by observing fast on this Ekadashi. Medhavi observed the fast with full devotion to Lord Vishnu and got relieved from his mistakes. Chyavana advised the same fast to Majughosha as well. Manjughosha also observed the fast and regretted for her wrong deeds and she was also relieved from her sin.

Amalaki Ekadashi is a Hindu holy day ,celebrated on the 11th day (Ekadashi) of the waxing moon, in the lunar month of Phalgun (February–March). It is a celebration of the amalaka or amla tree  known as the Indian gooseberry.

Prernamurti  Bharti  Shriji  in these excrept of discourse has let us know the,Significance , Vrat Katha and Fasting  Bebefits Of Amlaki Ekadashi.Shriji said ” Do you know what it is? It’s Amla (Indian gooseberry). It is known as Aamalki. How did it originate?Lord Vishnu once spat. That drop fell on earth and from that one white dot was formed from which Aamalki tree originated. This tree is known as Vaishnav tree.On earth, amla is considered to be like elixir. The juice of Amla like elixir nourishes and gratifies the human body.

During the season of amla, any person who eats 3 amlas does not have to face any disease or hardships. For heart diseases, amla is like a boon.Eating amla jam, drinking amla juice along with honey, worshipping amla tree, using amla in various forms; it’s similar to a treasure of health for human beings.Hence you should worship Aamalki tree, eat amla without fail.

Amlaki Ekadashi Vrat katha and Mahatmay (Importance of Amlaki Ekadashi and story)

Deities had seen many types of trees before like Ashwath tree, but they were surprised after looking at this new tree and they started thinking – which tree is this, what fruit it gives and how did it originate? Then there was celestial announcement from sky.It said – Oh Deities, Lord Vishnu loves this Aamalki tree.In its roots – Lord Vishnu, on top of that – Lord Brahma and in its stem – Lord Rudra resides. In its branches – Deities and Rishis reside, in leaves – Vasu resides and in its flowers – Marudgan resides.Hence, this tree will be considered as the most holy tree.

Deities asked – Who are you, doing celestial announcement from sky? Then celestial announcement was made from sky – Oh deities, I am Lord Narayan, Lord Vishnu. This Aamalki tree which originated on earth, is a boon for human beings which destroys all the sins, will be considered as a holy tree. It’s chanting gives the fruit which is attained by donating cow.By touching it – fruit is doubled, and by eating it – fruit is tripled.Hence, human beings should consume amla.

Deities asked Lord Narayana – Oh Achyut, please tell us, by observing which fast the souls living in the mortal world will be benefited? The most kind lord said,” in falgun month , shukla paksh, pushya nakshatra dwadashi is considered to be the most auspicious date . A day before is Ekadashi and whosoever observes this fast near amla tree by awakening for the whole night , gets rid off all the sins.

Rituals ( vidhi ) and fasting method (vrat vidhi )

Deities asked Lord Vishnu”,How to observe and end this fast” . Lord said.. O’ Sages and deities, in the morning, clean your teeth with Neem stick, and take bath(in earlier times there used to be ponds or lakes to bathe) now in houses. Pray to lord Vishnu, O’ lord, I’ m observing this fast, you are the Supreme lord, you are Eternal,  who will eliminate all my sins and I am totally surrendered in your lotus feet.  Today, I will not eat anything, please shower your grace on me.  Take amla or soil of basil tree , put it all over you body, and chant

                              Ashwakrante Rathrante Vishnu krante vasundhare

Bhutike har main paapam janmkotyaam samarjitam

O’ Goddess earth, countless horses and chariots run over you. Lord Vishnu in ‘Vamana’ incarnation had covered you in a single step, I have been purifying myself by bathing with your soil, kindly get me rid off from all the sins, worries and distress.

Then put the soil over your body and bathe. There is a mantra for bathing too. I will tell you the meaning of that mantra. While bathing, do pray to the goddess of water, O’ Goddess of water, you are the life line of all the creatures on the earth, you feed all types of creatures. Everywhere whether its well, river, pond, spring or lakes, bathing in every pilgrimage or temple or deity’s place, with this bath I will be getting the merit of bathing in all such pious places.

While bathing, chant…..OM ANANTAYE NAMAH, ACHUTAYE NAMAH,GOVINDAYE NAMAH, MADHVAYE NAMAH KESHWAYE NAMAH

After bath, near the amla tree, purify the place under it by cleaning , place a pitcher near it and worship it. Considered as the abode of all deities, touching, eating its fruit, remembering, having darshnas of this tree is known to be  very beneficial for the entire mankind. Therefore, on this ekadashi, we should worship this tree by chanting

OM VISHNAVE NAMAH, OM VISHNAVE NAMAH, OM VISHNAVE NAMAH. This is the tilak of Lord Vishnu. Apply this Vaishnav Tilak on Amla Tree, we should worship this tree with flowers.. OM VISHWAKAY NAMAH, OM VISHWARUPINEE NAMHA, OM UKRAKAYE NAMAH, OM DAMODARAY NAMAH, OM PADMANABAHAY NAMAH, SHRI VADSADHARAE NAMAH…

.If you cant remember these names, then chant OM VISHNAVE NAMAH,OM ANANATAYE NAMAH, OM ACHUTAYE NAMAH, OM GOVINDAYE NAMAH and worship this tree with kumkum, abir & gulal.

OFFER SALUTATION TO Amla tree by chanting’ Om vishnave namah, om govindaye namah’  and lit a diya ,do aarti and imagine you are personally worshipping the Lord. After this say, “dhoopam darshyami, deepam darshyami”..after that do 28 or 108 circumambulation(pradakshina) of this tree .

Significance of Vijaya Ekadashi , Vrat katha vidhi, mahatmay ,fasting benefits

‘Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare’
‘Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare’

This is a bow with arrow. After looking at the bow and arrow, who do you remember? Lord Rama, right? After looking at the flute, you remember Lord Krishna and after looking at bow and arrow, you remember Lord Rama.

Lord Rama – Referred to as Maryada Purushottama (Lord of Self-Control)

Lord Rama – Who defeated cruel rulers and demons.

Lord Rama – The Victorious Hero.

Lord Rama – Who helps to traverse this worldly ocean.

Lord Rama – Who resides within everyone.

Mahatmay of Vijaya Ekadashi (vrat katha)

There are many definitions of Lord Rama. There are few incidents of Lord Rama’s life which inspire human beings, teach them how to live a life. When Lord Rama was residing in Panchvati along with Sita Ji; Shurpanakha, sister of Ravana, changed her appearance and came in the form of a beautiful women. She was captivated by the beauty of Lord Rama.Shurpanakha told Lord Rama – Oh brave man, Oh beautiful man, will you marry me?

Lord Rama said -Lakshmana, my younger brother, is not married yet. He might marry you!!She went near Lakshmana.Lakshmana said –He is a king. If you marry him, you can take charge of his kingdom; I am his servant, if you marry me, you will have to live like a servant. You will become a maid.Shurpanakha again went near Lord Rama.

Lord Rama refused her proposal so she got annoyed. In angriness, she took the form of a female demon. When she took the form of a female demon, Lakshmana also got angry. He thought that she is shameless and slashed her nose and ears.Shurpanakha got angry and irritated as her nose and ears were slashed and she went to meet her brother Khardushan.

Khardushan, in order to take revenge of his sister, invaded them.Uncle Maricha took the form of a golden deer, made plans to deceive Lord Rama and kidnap Sita Ji.You all know the consequence of this that Sita Ji was kidnapped by Ravana.Ravana kidnapped Sita Ji and Lord Rama wandered from one forest to another to search his beloved Sita Ji.

Lord Rama met Jatayu on the way.Jatayu narrated the whole story to him that Sita Ji was kidnapped by demon Ravana in the north direction. And to rescue her from Ravana, Jatayu fought till his last breadth. While trying to rescue Sita Ji, his feathers were slashed. Lord Rama took Jatayu and laid him on his lap.

It signifies that when you fight till your last breadth for any noble cause or for God himself; or if you fight to safeguard the religion; and if you take your last breath while fighting for it; then you get to rest in God’s lap.If one possesses the goodwill to serve God like Jatayu; safeguard religion like Jatayu; then he takes his last breath in God’s lap. Then Lord Rama killed the demon Kabandha after which he made friends with Sugriva. The army of monkeys gathered together wherein they got Hanuman Ji who was sent to cross the ocean and search Sita Ji.

“You know it –
Prabhu mudrika meli mukha maahi, jaladhi langh gaye achraja nahin
Means – It is unsurprising that you jumped over the ocean with Lord Rama’s ring in your mouth.”

When the news was confirmed that Sita Ji was kidnapped and taken at the Ashok Vatika of Ravana; Lord Rama became restless thinking about how to cross the ocean. This much army of monkeys had already gathered.Lord Rama was worried and asked Lakshmana – Sumitranandan, it is such a huge ocean; such a fearful roaring ocean; how can it be crossed with such a small army of monkeys?

Lakshmana said -Oh Lord, you are Purna-Purushottama (Supreme God). Nothing is hidden from you.At a distance of few miles from here, in the forest, there is a hermitage of Rishi Bakadalvya.Let’s go there and ask him to suggest some way out to cross this ocean.Lord Rama, in spite of being God, goes to the hermitage of Rishi; salutes him; honors and respects him by bowing his head. From Lord Rama’s life; human should learn that irrespective of how great he becomes, wealth, money, son, family, even if he attains the peak of success; even then he should humbly honor the people who are more talented than him; he should bow his head in front of holy saints.

Lord Rama goes inside the hermitage of Rishi Bakadalvya, bows his head along with Lakshmana, and asks the saint – Oh Rishi, I am son of King Dasharatha.I want to cross this ocean. Please suggest some solution for this.Rishi immediately understood thatPurna-Purushottama Lord Rama incarnated in this world to abolish the demons.

Rishi Bakadalvya says that – Rama, the ekadashi which falls on the 11th day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Phalgun is known as Vijaya Ekadashi.

If you observe its fast properly by following all the rituals, then definitely you can cross the ocean along with your army and will come back with great success. If you want to achieve success in your life, there are many demons in this world, ten demons of that type.

The biggest demons are sitting inside human’s mind – lust, rage, greed, attachment and fear of death. We need to overcome these demons also. And, in this world there are lots of demons, we need to overcome them also and become successful. It signifies that if human being wants to cross this worldly ocean and become successful, then he should certainly observe fast on Ekadashi.

Rituals for Vijaya Ekadashi

Now, Rishi Bakadalvya narrates the rituals to be followed while observing Ekadashi fast.On the tenth day of Krishna Paksha, Dashami, fill some water in pitcher. This is autumn season. In this season, new leaves and flowers blossom.Take these new leaves and put on the pitcher, and place idol of Lord Narayan on that.Worship that idol.

Next day, on the morning of Ekadashi, take bath in river, then place the idol of Lord Vishnu on that pitcher; worship Lord Narayan with  Areca nut (supari), sandalwood,  leaf, flower, fragrance.Sit in front of that and for the whole day listen to the significance of Ekadashi, do kirtan of Lord Narayan’s name; do japa; and on the next day, donate that pitcher along with the idol to any Brahmin. Dear Rama, after doing this, you will definitely achieve victory in your war.

Brahmaji told Naradji – My son, on this Vijaya Ekadashi, those who observe fast in this way; they become successful in this world and attain a superior state in the other world.Hence, you also observe fast on Vijaya Ekadashi and become victorious, successful and develop yourself.

Ekadashi-The highest form of Penance–Prernamurti Bharti Shriji

EKADASHI – THE HIGHEST FORM OF PENANCE-- Prernamurti Bharti Shriji Vaikunta Ekadasi ,Ekadashi Katha, Ekadashi Vrat ,Ekadasi Fasting , Nirjala ,Ekadashi, Ekadasi Ekadashi,
There exists no vrata as powerful as Ekadashi in the three worlds, no penance like fasting and no Guru like a mother

Ekadashi-The highest form of Penance

The Sanatan Sanskirti owes its originto penance. Bhagwan Narayan did penance for over thousand years and created Brahma Ji. Brahma ji did penance for more than thousand years and created this world. Therefore, Tapa is the reason for the creation and sustenance of Shrishti (World). If milk is kept raw and unboiled, it will go sour. However, if it is boiled and heated it will stay fresh for a long time. The rains are heavier when the Sun God scorches more. The crops are also richer when the land radiates the heat. Similarly, even coal tar is put through high intensity of heat before it is laid firmly on the roads. Only when gold is subjected to heat, it can be used for making ornaments.

Similarly, even in the life of human beings, the more the penance, the more the life radiates and shines with prosperity, happiness and peace. Man becomes influential and extremely affluent.

It is mentioned in the Atharvaveda ‘Divmaruhat Tapsa Tapaswi’. The man who does Tapa rises. Without penance, there cannot be elevation of the self.

In our daily lives, there is a need for penance. Ekadashi Vrat is a part of this penance. Every day, a you eat 3-4 meals, but when you are fasting, you renounce the food for the entire day or takeonly one meal. This is penance. Tapasya helps man to blossom and uplift his consciousness. Whatever man gains through Tapasya stays wih him for a long time.

What is the importance of Ekadashi Vrat?

Ekadashi Vrat is known to end sufferings, sin, grief, sorrow and indigence.

5 ‘Karmaindriyaan’ (organs of action) + 5 “Gyaanindriyaan’(sensory organs) + 1 mind = 11 organs

Lord Vishnu has 10 incarnations and also is manifested in one form as the Parabrahma Parmatma (Absolute Truth), totaling to 11 forms. The position of the moon is eleventh. Moon is the ruler of the mind. The moon affects the mind, body, and therefore the problems affecting the mind and the body gets aggravated on this date. Therefore Ekadashi Vrat is the ultimate remedy for controlling the restlessness of the mind.

“The person who undertakes this Vrata, which bestows both material pleasures and moksha, is very dear to me, even if he is a devil”- Lord Vishnu

Ekadashi Vrata helps in eradicating all sins and eliminates fear and grants dharma (conduct), artha (finance), kama(desires), moksha (liberation).  The greatness of the Shayani EkadashiVrata cannot be described by Lord Brahma Ji himself. The person who observes this Vrata, does jagran (stays awake through the night) and worships Lord Vishnu by offering Lotus flowers is indeed admirable.
